[Paisà] The first film by my father, Roberto Rossellini, that I remember watching as a child. I had some girlfriends tell me afterwards they were bored, so I was ashamed. Then, later, I heard some adults mumbling the same sentiments. But when I revisited this picture as a teenager I got to make up my own mind about it. I could barely handle the emotional surprise that accompanied my realisation that my father really knew what he was doing. I had been secretly and shamefully short-changing him for years, and now, without saying a word to me, he was telling me through this film that he was a force to be reckoned with, a force that for me would never go away!
